Attractions and Itineraries

The goal for our courses is not only to offer top-tier sailing instruction but to introduce students to the "cruising lifestyle". We typically only ever spend one or two nights in the same anchorage and like to experience all of the amazing locations the Virgin Islands have to offer.

More Information

Typical Day

Each day can take any format you desire! We try to maximize each charter by only spending one or two nights in each location. Most groups choose to do an activity in the morning and sail in the afternoons! Activities include snorkeling, scuba diving, hiking, fishing, walking around town, visiting local attractions and more.

Equipment Onboard

Our boat comes equipped with a 10’ highfield dinghy with a 20 horsepower outboard making zipping from boat to shore a breeze! We also have fins, snorkels and masks for up to 6 people plus assorted water toys.

Provisions

All on board provisions other than alcohol are covered by First Reef Sailing. We will visit the grocery store on the first day and stock the boat for the rest of the course/charter. Guests are only responsible for alcohol purchases and meals onshore.

British Virgin Islands Requirements

If you choose to spend your charter in the British Virgin Islands make sure to bring your Passport! There are no visa requirements for US Passport holders. We will be departing the USVI on the first day and checking into the BVI's. Your captain will take care of the check in process, all you have to do is fill out a short form and pull out your passport! All BVI private charter weeks will include a $500 dollar surcharge, (ASA courses will have a $150 per person surcharge) to cover the customs, immigration and cruising permit fees.

Our Marina

The trip will begin and end at our dock at American Yacht Harbor, in Red Hook on St. Thomas.

American Yacht Harbor is a full service marina with on-shore showers and bathrooms, Wi-Fi, and 24/7 Security staff. It is located in the center of Red Hook, the easternmost town on St. Thomas, making it the logical departure point for charters in the USVI and the British Virgin Islands.

Red Hook itself boasts plenty of dining and shopping opportunities within a 5 minute walk of the marina. There is a gourmet supermarket across the street from the marina as well as a full service laundromat.
